Could this be the sequel to Shades?

The game is called Detachment and we can’t wait to release it. We really haven’t been this excited about a game since we were working on “Shades: A Simple Puzzle Game” 3 years ago (In a strange coincidence we actually came up with the idea for Detachment almost 3 years to the day that we came up with the idea for Shades).

Our excitement for Shades turned out to be justified. It went on to be our most successful game by far. In its launch week, Apple featured Shades in the  “Best New Games” category and a few months later as “Free App of The Week”. Sites like, AppAdvice, TouchArcade and Buzzfeed wrote flattering things about Shades.

Even more important than the recognition from Apple and journalists are the millions of players who love Shades. Probably most rewarding are the many players who write reviews saying that they normally didn’t play mobile games, but for some reason, they were just addicted to Shades. It was fun for us to see that we had created a game that was popular with a such a wide range of people.

This is why we’re so excited about Detachment. Detachment is not a sequel to Shades but it’s definitely a close cousin. It has all the qualities that made Shades popular. It’s a beautiful, minimalist game based on color. The gameplay is familiar, yet unique. It’s very simple, yet surprisingly challenging. But most importantly, Detachment has the same relaxing, mesmerizing feel that makes Shades a perfect game to play when you want to unwind and chill out.

Will Detachment be as popular as Shades?

We have no idea. UOVO is just a two man shop.  We don’t have data crunchers or market analysts. We don’t have a marketing department (or a budget for marketing). All we really have is our gut feeling. We think Detachment is a fantastic game. Our gut feeling is that it could absolutely be as popular as Shades. We’re very excited (and a little nervous) to find out if we’re right.

We plan to release Detachment in August.
