Young Bloods – as Blogging interns.

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Seems like the last few weeks have been pretty hectic around here – last week especially was a blur!

The week before last we had Thomas and Johannes back for another internship – this time as bloggers. What an amazing job they did!
Kevin and I had a fresh determination – after the holidays- to put some of our ideas that had been sitting on the backburners- onto the front ones- and the timing couldn’t have been better. The lads took to blogging like fish to water- and what we ended up with was our first topical blog: Adgames.

Not bad for a weeks work. We found it hard to understand how the guys could survive on generic cola and chips for their daily diet… but they didn’t pass out or anything, and they seemed to enjoy themselves.

Your T-shirts are in the mail – to us; we’ll let you know when they arrive, guys!

CASE: WIFEBEATER. Amnesty Youth.

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

We worked with Sune and Pelle (two students from ITU), these past few weeks, to help them hammer together a thought provoking game for the Amnesty Youth site – in conjunction with their independent project at ITU.

The campaign is for Stop Violence Against Women- so together with Pelle and Sune, we designed a WifeBeater game in which the player is the Wife who tries to please her husband- only there IS no pleasing the guy. Inevitably he loses his temper and punches the hell out of the poor lady.

If you forgive him- you play again. If you don’t- the game is over, and you get sent to a case article on the Amnesty site about Spousal Abuse.

It was tricky making fun of a serious topic- but we seem to have managed it. It does get the point across that there is no “win” in such a situation. The high score is also inverted- the lower the score- the higher your placement. Scoring is kept by the number of days you stay in the relationship. There again, the point is: Get Out!

We got a kick out of it. It’s a simple game for a good cause, and we hope it gets the attention of Amnesty International- and gets online!
And we wish all the best to Pelle and Sune! It was great working with them – they were hard working, humorous, intelligent and very creative. We expect to see great things from these guys in the future!

(Pelle – Sune)

Sune and Pelle came by today to show off their very impressive ring-bound thesis.
I tell ya… UOVO looks terribly good in print;)

These guys did a great job brainstorming with us to come up with the idea for the game (we’ll talk about that later – after they get the thesis marked) and were a blast to work with while we helped out on the design and programming.
