CASE: KEMO-KASPER : Familier med kræftramte børn

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

How do you make a web-game about a serious topic like child-cancer without being too serious, or too glib?

Make it fun, make it hard, and make it just informative enough to give those who know nothing of the sickness at least an idea of what these kids go through during kemotherapy treatment.

At the end of last year we were approached by “Familier med kræftramte børn”, asking if we’d be willing to help them out by volunteering to make a little game for their website to support this year’s campaign to raise awareness and funds for their cause. FMKB helps families with children who have cancer, and funding for cancer research.

We offered to do the game for free, and in return we’d get a link back to ourselves, and credit in their press materials.

We came up with a revamp of the Kemo-Kasper character, known from the book given to every child in hospital with cancer, and a tournament concept that would get kids across the country involved, getting them to raise money to fight cancer through being sponsored by neighbours, friends and family, in a sort of play-a-thon.

The play-a-thon got a little morphed from our grassroots idea, into something a lot more commercial – what with all the big business sponsors, and brand prizes – but we figure any money is good money for these folks, and this cause.

Once the idea got off the ground, all sorts of assignments came about;
Posters, newspaper ads, postcards, banners, flyers, badges, display box, animated film ad, tshirt, and a website design – not to mention the cool game! We worked hard and fast to get everything done for the tournament day, and could then, finally, relax and have a great time with our kids at Boomtown Copenhagen playing in the tournament, and eating a whole lot of free icecream!

The tournament got a lot of press and attention on tv… and it looks like FMKB got what they were after – a lot of attention and more than double the funds raised compared to last year’s all-time record!;)

We made AdGames to keep an eye on the latest and most interesting advergames out there for our own research – now we open the doors and let everyone in on the little nuggets we’ve found out there.

Do you know of a game that you think should be put under the loop? Tip us and we’ll get right on blogging about it.

Young Bloods – as Blogging interns.

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Seems like the last few weeks have been pretty hectic around here – last week especially was a blur!

The week before last we had Thomas and Johannes back for another internship – this time as bloggers. What an amazing job they did!
Kevin and I had a fresh determination – after the holidays- to put some of our ideas that had been sitting on the backburners- onto the front ones- and the timing couldn’t have been better. The lads took to blogging like fish to water- and what we ended up with was our first topical blog: Adgames.

Not bad for a weeks work. We found it hard to understand how the guys could survive on generic cola and chips for their daily diet… but they didn’t pass out or anything, and they seemed to enjoy themselves.

Your T-shirts are in the mail – to us; we’ll let you know when they arrive, guys!
